Byline: The Holistic Homebody by Hakikah

Homebody: One who enjoys the simple pleasures and activities that center around the home.

Home is more than where we sleep. It’s where we root, where we rise, where we return.

For Black women—especially those entering a new season, such as retirement or reinvention—home can become a place of profound restoration. But only if we are intentional about the way we live in it.

A "holistic homebody" refers to someone who finds fulfillment and well-being in their home environment, viewing it as a space that nourishes their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. You don't just enjoy being at home; you actively cultivate a space that promotes tranquility, harmony, and overall wellness as a lifestyle. This lifestyle encompasses many aspects of holistic living, including healthy eating, mindful practices, and cultivating a positive atmosphere within your home.

I created The Holistic Homebody as both a sanctuary and a strategy. A place for women like us, who finally have time, to consciously slow down, listen to our bodies, honor our spirits, and find ease within our walls; make our homes our ministry. I'm talking to women planning, or who are currently retired, it's essential to make the most of the time you have — now and in the future. For the woman who has spent her life caring for others and is finally ready to care for herself. This is our time, this is our season. My mother retired at the age I am now — 65. She passed at 97. Watching her navigate through that season, I learned that there are many years between, and God willing, you can make them the best. (Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be. Job 8:7)

Here, at The Holistic Homebody, we live seasonally. We create sacred rhythms and legacy rituals.

We rest as an act of reverence. In recent years, we've been inundated with reminders to rest. We certainly recognize its importance and desire to do so, but the questions persist: how do I find time for it, what exactly is it, and how do I go about it?

At The Holistic Homebody, we believe:

  • The home and your body are your temples

  • Every season offers wisdom

  • Black women deserve joy, peace, and pleasure

Your time is NOW! This is your time! This is YOUR season! You can create a future beyond what you've even dared to dream

You are entering the juicest, most bliss-filled season of your life.

This blog, Ki•Notes by Hakikah, is an offering. Each weekly post will hold reflections, rituals, and reminders to help you cultivate your home as a healing ground, from the pantry to the prayer chair.

Whether you’re lighting a candle before journaling or devotions, growing herbs on the windowsill, or choosing Sabbath over striving, you are welcome here.

You are a holistic homebody when you:

  • Find magic in the mundane

  • Choose alignment over achievement

  • Seek God in your routines and rituals

  • Make your home a place that mirrors your values.

So here we are—at the beginning...again

Let’s build homes that heal us.

Let’s find our rhythm Let's invest in our self-wealth

Let’s rest well and rise whole.

Key Notes:

What part of your home feels most sacred right now—and what part is calling for your attention?

Share your thoughts in the comments. I’d love to hold space for your reflections.
